Waleed Abu al-Khair is a human rights defender who has been in prison for almost 11 years because of his peaceful activism and has been repeatedly mistreated there. The lawyer founded the human rights organization Monitor of Human Rights in Saudi Arabia (MHRSA) in 2008 and campaigned for years for democratic reforms in Saudi Arabia.

As member / sympathizer of Amnesty International, I hereby call on you to release Waleed Abu al-Khair immediately and unconditionally, as he is being held solely for peacefully exercising his rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly. I also call on you to ensure that, while he is still in custody, Waleed Abu al-Khair is protected from torture and other ill-treatment and receives the medical care he needs.
