.

Dear Prosecutor General,

I would like to express my concern about the case of
Anna Arkhipova, Yan Ksenzhepolsky, Evgeniy Zateev, Pavel Sinelnikov and Vasiliy Neustroev, who in April 2026 were sentenced to long prison terms for their alleged affiliation with the youth democratic movement Vesna.

The case against them was based solely on social media messages that the prosecution failed to attribute to them. Those messages expressed critical views of the Russian aggression in Ukraine and called for peaceful protests against it. The social media posts and peaceful public actions were nothing but the exercise of the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights, and the Russian Constitution. And yet, they and other alleged Vesna members are being prosecuted for these legitimate activities.

As member / sympathizer of Amnesty International, I strongly urge you to review this case and take all necessary steps to ensure that the convictions of Anna Arkhipova, Yan Ksenzhepolsky, Evgeniy Zateev, Pavel Sinelnikov, and Vasiliy Neustroev are quashed and that they are immediately and unconditionally released. Please also put a stop to any other prosecutions based solely on alleged affiliations with Vesna.

Yours sincerely,
