Dear Governor,

As member / sympathizer of Amnesty International, I have learned of the difficult situation faced by the human rights defenders Karla Martínez, Bibiana Mendoza, and Verónica Durán.
Karla Martínez, Bibiana Mendoza, and Verónica Durán are spokespersons for the collective Hasta Encontrarte Guanajuato, founded in 2021, which consists of relatives of people who are missing in the state of Guanajuato. Karla Martínez is searching for her brother Juan Valentín Martínez Jiménez (missing since 2020), Bibiana Mendoza for her brother Manuel Ojeda Negrete (missing since 2018), and Verónica Durán for her son Iván Arturo Silva Durán (missing since 2019). By mid-2025, Hasta Encontrarte Guanajuato had already located 23 secret graves and clarified the fate of 216 people.
The three women are under financial pressure due to the costly search operations, and their efforts take a heavy physical and emotional toll. In recent years, they have been threatened, criminalized, and attacked. The state protection measures granted to them are insufficient and must be urgently strengthened.

Please ensure that Karla Martínez, Bibiana Mendoza, Verónica Durán, and other members of Hasta Encontrarte Guanajuato are adequately protected so that they can search for their relatives independently and with dignity, without fear of reprisals. Please recognize their important role as human rights defenders and respect their right to the truth.
